Job Description

Position Title: Multimedia Director
Organization: MERQ Consultancy PLC
Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (with flexibility for travel and hybrid engagement)
Employment Type: Full-time (preferred) or Part-time (exceptional candidates considered)
Reports to: CEO / Global Coordination Office

Background

MERQ Consultancy PLC is an evidence-driven organization specializing in Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Quality Improvement in health and the humanities. As part of its mission to strengthen knowledge translation, public engagement, and societal impact, MERQ is expanding its multimedia production and communications capacity.

MERQ has invested in state-of-the-art multimedia production infrastructure to develop high-quality products including health education materials, documentaries, educational modules, and digital platforms. A strategic priority is the development of family-focused multimedia products that promote health, social well-being, and informed decision-making, as well as strengthening the public visibility and accessibility of research findings and key public health initiatives.

Position Overview

The Multimedia Director will lead the conceptualization, production, dissemination, and strategic positioning of multimedia content that supports MERQ’s research, education, advocacy, and public engagement mission. This includes the creation of documentaries, educational materials, family-oriented multimedia products, and multimedia platforms.

The Multimedia Director will also play a critical role in strengthening the public visibility of MERQ’s work by collaborating with program leads to conduct strategic public relations (PR) for key research outputs and activities of public health importance.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Creative Leadership

  • Develop and lead MERQ’s multimedia and visual communications strategy aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Conceptualize and oversee production of multimedia products including:
    • Health education materials
    • Documentaries
    • Educational and training materials
    • Research dissemination content
    • Family-focused multimedia products promoting health and social well-being
  • Translate complex research findings and technical information into compelling and accessible multimedia formats.
  • Establish production standards, workflows, and quality assurance systems.

Family-Focused Multimedia Production

  • Lead the design and production of multimedia content targeting families, caregivers, children, and communities.
  • Develop multimedia products promoting:
    • Preventive health practices
    • Maternal, newborn, and child health
    • Family well-being and caregiving
    • Healthy behaviors and lifestyles
    • Social awareness and community resilience
  • Ensure content is culturally appropriate, accessible, and engaging.

Multimedia Platform Development and Management

  • Establish and manage MERQ’s YouTube channel as a flagship multimedia dissemination platform.
  • Develop and implement a strategic content plan and publishing schedule.
  • Establish and manage additional multimedia platforms, including:
    • Social media video platforms
    • Educational video platforms
    • Multimedia repositories
    • Audio and podcast channels (as applicable)
  • Monitor analytics, engagement metrics, and platform growth, and optimize dissemination strategies.

Public Relations and Strategic Communications

  • Work closely with program leads, researchers, and leadership to develop multimedia materials that support the public dissemination and visibility of key research findings and public health initiatives.
  • Lead multimedia-based public relations efforts to highlight:
    • Major research outputs
    • Program milestones and achievements
    • Innovations and implementation successes
    • Activities of public health importance
  • Produce multimedia content suitable for public dissemination, partners, stakeholders, and media outlets.
  • Support strengthening MERQ’s institutional visibility and reputation through strategic multimedia communications.

Production Management

  • Lead the full multimedia production lifecycle including:
    • Concept development and scripting
    • Filming and directing
    • Editing and post-production
    • Final production and dissemination
  • Manage multimedia production equipment including cameras, audio systems, lighting, and studio infrastructure.
  • Ensure high technical quality and professional standards.

Knowledge Translation and Program Support

  • Collaborate with technical teams to support knowledge translation through multimedia.
  • Support production of multimedia content for training, advocacy, and education programs.
  • Ensure research findings and program lessons are effectively communicated to diverse audiences.

Team Leadership and Capacity Building

  • Build and lead MERQ’s multimedia production function.
  • Supervise videographers, editors, and multimedia consultants.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance.
  • Strengthen institutional multimedia and digital communications capacity.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Multimedia Production, Film, Communications, Digital Media, Journalism, or related field.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in multimedia production.
  • Demonstrated experience directing multimedia productions including documentaries, educational content, or digital media.
  • Experience managing digital multimedia platforms such as YouTube.
  • Experience supporting public communications, research dissemination, or public-facing multimedia initiatives.

Technical Skills

Proficiency in:

  • Video production and directing
  • Video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or equivalent)
  • Audio recording and editing
  • Lighting and studio production
  • Digital multimedia platform management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience producing health education or public health multimedia content
  • Experience producing family-focused multimedia content
  • Experience supporting public relations or research communications
  • Experience working with research institutions, NGOs, or development organizations
  • Strong storytelling and narrative development skills
